How has not drinking helped you as a parent?

Morning all and happy new year! I’m fast approaching 18 months without a drink and have learned a lot along the way, not least how important it is to eat well and manage your energy if you want to get by as an adult (I’m 34, m). I’m also going to become a dad for the first time in March (all being well, fingers crossed) and was wondering how being sober has helped you be a good parent?

I ask as a lot of my mates, who drink fairly regularly - 2 or 3 times a week on average - keep telling me I’ll never sleep or have any energy, and though I know they are right to an extent, I can’t help but wonder whether they are making their sleeplessness and lack of energy worse through drinking. To put it another way, I’m wondering if my sobriety will give me an ‘edge’ in terms of getting shut eye when I can get it and just generally maintaining good energy levels.

Cheers!
