Everyone I know says manual transmissions are terrible for commute or to just own…

I have been looking at getting a manual transmission car because of recent transmission reliability I’ve had with other cars, I brought the idea up to my mother (I still live with her im 18) and she said manuals are terrible and I would hate driving every single day of my life if I owned one. My roommate said the same thing and he is 70 and has had many manuals in the past… am I wrong for thinking it’s something better than automatic? I have a motorcycle and I love being able to shift and control what I’m doing on my bike, so how much harder would that be in a car? (I’ve never driven stick either 😓) any feedback about all of it would be appreciated as I feel stuck in limbo about it lol.
