Old vs New, and Holly

I am aware that there have been other conversations about this, but I wanted to mix the two conversations of his older works vs. his newer works and Holly as a character/concept lol. I used to hate when people told me "King's newer books are garbage, his old stuff is where it's at" because I really do love some of his newer works, like 11/22/63, The Institute, The Outsider, If It Bleeds, and Fairytale. However, the more he writes, the more I hate to admit that I am starting to agree with those people. At this point, I don't know if it's because I don't like Holly as a character, or I don't like his new stuff in general. I used to LOVE Holly back in the Mr. Mercedes and Outsider days, I'm talking i used to wait in anticipation for another Holly book to come out. But now I am feeling as though she's getting old, and it pains me. Her book was almost difficult for me to read, which took me by surprise. I ended up DNFing Holly (if I should go back and finish please tell me, but it will take a lot out of me to do so lol. I'm willing to though if people think it's worth it). And it pains me to write this, but for the first time, I'm not really looking forward to his new book. "Never Flinch" is the first time I've ever NOT had one of King's books on preorder. It's like I'm breaking my own heart, but I was extremely disappointed when I heard "Never Flinch" was yet another Holly book. I don't know where the spark went for me. Am I getting bitter? I'm trying so hard to not look back at King's older books and wonder what had happened and what changed. I didn't know if this feeling was only stemming from my feeling that Holly is being overwritten or if this is something other fans are experiencing as well.
