We know surprisingly little about the Federation after almost 60 years.
Star Trek has a “lore problem.” There has generally been a hesitancy by writers to pin down “facts” in many areas because they see them as limiting future writers.
The result is that after all of these years, there are many holes in Trek that have never been properly filled. Compared with universes like Star Wars, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, or The Expanse, there is a lot that we don’t know about this universe. Whats interesting is that we know more about the Federation’s adversaries (Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians, Borg etc) than we do about the Federation itself.
Whats interesting is do folks think about that. Is that something that should be corrected in the future?
