Unvaccinated Brit tourist got bitten by a stray dog in Ella today

Today evening I was standing in front of a supermarket in Ella when 3 young Brit girls approached. They asked a man who sells roti if the stray dogs here are rabies vaccinated, which he couldn’t answer. One of the girls said she was bitten by a dog today. When I heard this, I joined the conversation and asked if she is rabies vaccinated, which she was not because “it’s so expensive in the UK”. I told her it’s an important thing to do, especially if you pet stray dogs or interact with certain animals in general. Her excuse was that her friend is also not vaccinated. I truly couldn’t believe what I heard. You have the money to fly around the globe for a holiday but save money for basic vaccines and still interact with stray dogs. She then said she might go to the hospital tomorrow which I advised her to do as soon as possible.
