In defense of choosing the lotto ticket
I don’t know what being homeless is like in South Korea, but here in Canada it would make perfect sense to choose the lottery ticket. Here, cheap carbs like the plain bun offered are the most accessible and available when you are extremely poor. Not only are they the least expensive foods to buy, but many coffee shops donate their day old muffins/buns/pastries to homeless shelters and soup kitchens so carbs are always abundant while nutrient dense foods like meat and vegetables are scarce.
With that in mind, it makes total sense to me to choose the lottery ticket. The decent chance of winning a small prize like $10, with which you could buy yourself a hot meal with some meat or vegetables, is a better choice than a plain bun that will make you feel full for 20 minutes and then you’re hungry again.
