Why do Gi-hun and the Recruiter agree to play Russian Roulette?
I don’t understand why either of them would agree to play this given their circumstances and ideologies. As far as he Gi-hun knows, he is the only one trying to shut down the squid game and as such the only chance that it does get shut down is HIM. If he dies his, mission dies with him. So why would he risk his life even BEFORE he knows that the key to the captain is in the Recruiter’s pocket? As for the Recruiter it seems like he views himself as being above the players, especially the ones who CHOOSE to risk their lives, so by choosing to engage in THIS death game isn’t he kinda admitting that he’s no better than the people he leads to their deaths? Someone please help me understand.
