Hostels in Madrid / General advice for identifying Hostels with the vibe you're looking for?
Hi all,
I was just wondering if;
- Anybody had a strong reccomendations for Hostels in Madrid?
- If anybody had any tips or tricks for finding specific Hostel types?
For context;
I'm a 32 year old English male (living in Paris if it matters).
I enjoy solo travelling a lot, as I like to meet new people and yet have the freedom to do my own travels, so I have been to many places doing this and had some of my best memories too.
However my hostel experiences are very inconsistent.
I'm now too old for what I'd call a 'party' hostel, but I do want to find hostels with a social vibe. Often, and progressively more so over time, I'm finding that hostels especially in the 'social' areas can often be people glued to instagram, their laptop, or on phone calls or indifferent. Therefore at some hostels you can simply meet nobody, especially my experience here in France.
How do I find that sweet spot of a nice (more adult) hostel, that isn't TOO trashy, but is still social?
What I've found is that hostels can often go -> super trashy party vibes with 18-21 year olds, or too up market and people are instagramming to themselves quietly.
I have got lucky before don't get me wrong, especially in South America the hostel vibes seem great (25-35 year old travellers who are more experienced) but in Europe it really feels like a gamble.
Is it best to look for hostels with a bar potentially? One with organised group tours? One with good reviews by people your age on Hostel World? If you do find yourself in a hostel and it has no vibe at all, what do you do?
