Big was actually really kind to Carrie?
OK, I'm not a huge Big fan or anything, but I have to say, I've been struck during my latest rewatch by how much grace he extended to Carrie over incidents that probably would have sent most people packing. In the first two seasons alone:
- She stalked out his ex-wife to get the deets on their threesome. He knew and didn't even confront her for it, then tried to reassure her.
- She stalked out Big and his mom at church after he clearly expressed he wasn't ready for them to meet and it's a special thing they do together. He expressed frustration, but nothing out of line, and Carrie is the one who turned it into an offense against her and eventually breaks up with him.
- She punched him when he accidentally pushed her out of bed (even if some people say it was a reflex). He moved to the couch in his own house.
- She threw a bag of food at his TV. Carrie then breaks up with him, again.
I know Carrie was frustrated because she was in love with him and he seemed to be withholding from her, but as I've seen others post about here, he never deceived her about where their relationship was going and pretty clearly just had intimacy issues that he was trying to work out by going at his own pace.
I guess I just find it interesting that Big is characterized as this suave, unattainable guy whose appeal mainly lies in his looks, money and charm, when he was actually pretty decent. Now, I'm not denying that later on he did some shady stuff (they almost kind of retconned an otherwise good guy to be a selfish sleaze during the affair), but I guess I forgot how very c-c-c-crazy Carrie acted in the beginning...
