11:30pm delivery

I recently received a package delivery from royal mail at 11:30pm at night. They left it on the doorstep and rang the doorbell which woke the whole house and when I opened the door they drove off. Expected delivery was before 19:30pm and it wasn't a high priority item or delivery. Just wanted to understand how this managed to happen as was such a strange time for a delivery!
