Do you read the Sacred Texts of other religions? Why or why not?
I come from a Christian education and I had religious experiences as a kid like my seeing the Holy Spirit as a tongue of flames at my first communion. But later on, it just felt very arbitrary and very lucky that it just happened that I was born in the right religion. So I've read other texts and had religious experiences reading them, just like I had when I was a kid.
Thing is, I can't really share this with people in my family. They are quite narrow minded. For them, the Sacred Text is the Bible, more specifically, the New Testament. And they want nothing to do with the Quran for example. I could even say they want to know nothing about the Quran. And it's quite puzzling for me. I don't understand this "it's one or the other" mentality. I feel like I keep discovering more and more about God the more I read, and I wonder why would someone who believes wouldn't want to too...
I've read the Bible, the Gnostic Gospels, the Quran, the Kitab i Aqdas, the Avesta, some of the Buddha discourses, some Hinduist texts like the Bagahvad Gita, bits of the RigVeda and the next one is the Book of Mormon.
How is it for you? What have you read? How do you percieve the Texts of other religions? What do you think about the variety of faiths? Does it matter which faith someone is born in? Why should he stick to it or not?
Now I want this discussion to remain civil but the beans to be spilled... so maybe best to not talk about the contents of books you haven't read but feel strongly about, but rather why you feel strongly about it.
Can't wait to read you!
