Hey, Indian gamers! I need your help with my research on parasocial relationships in video games and how they affect loneliness.

Hey everyone.

I'm doing a study on parasocial relationships and their link to loneliness. Basically, how gamers feel when they connect with their favorite video game characters. For example, you could be playing Cyberpunk 2077 and find yourself deeply connected with Panam/Judy. Or, you could be playing The Last of Us and view Joel as your dad/daddy (I'm not judging).

And, how lonely or connected you feel when you form this connection with the video game character.

Sounds fun? Well, you can participate in this study by clicking the link at the bottom. These are multiple-choice questions, with a few open-ended ones. Before you participate, please make sure you fall into these criteria:

  • You're originally from India.
  • You enjoy single-player, narrative-driven games.
  • You're at least 18 years of age.
  • You have 5-10 minutes to spare.

I am doing this as part of my Master's degree in Behavioural Sciences. I also work as a video game journalist, so this research helps my career too.

I will be truly humbled and grateful if you can help me out. I'm looking for at least 200 participants.

Here's the link to the study.

P.S. - Please mods, I request you not to remove this as I believe this post will contribute greatly to the Indian gaming scene. Future game devs and designers can use this data once the paper is published. I'm posting this on multiple Indian subreddits to get more responses.

Again, thank you so much for your time!
