$1/$2 set vs 4 card straight

Last night I’m sitting at $1/$2, I’ve managed to increase my stack from the $300 I sat with to about $750.

I straddle the button. I get five limpers, and look down at pocket 8s. Since I’m on the button and there’s so many limps I raise to $30 pre flop. I get two callers, one is immediately to my left in the small blind, one to my right in about middle position. Pot is now $115 pre flop.

Flop comes 9 7 8 rainbow. Small blind leads out for $30, player in middle position folds, I re raise to $130. Small blind calls for a $375 total pot. Turn is a 2. Small blind checks. I push all in, he snap calls his remaining stack ($340) and turns over A 10 off suit. Pot size is now $1,055. River comes with the J.

-$500 for me.

What’d I do wrong here? I feel like he’s calling off his whole stack on an open ended draw regardless of what I do with my set.
