Fixing greyed out "Save" button on Brave Browser

As detailed in this article if you are using a browser which supports showSaveFilePicker then you are able to use the "Save" (ctrl+s) function in Photopea. Brave is a Chromium based browser so while it does support showSaveFilePicker, your save option will be greyed out by default.

This is because Brave comes with hardening to improve security, at the cost of some features (like this one). To enable the showSaveFilePicker feature (and enable your save button), do the following:

  1. Launch Brave
  2. Go to brave://flags/
  3. Search for "File System Access API"
  4. Enable this flag
  5. Relaunch the browser
  6. Open a Photopea PSD document and try to use "Save"
  7. Click "OK" on the alert that pops up

And now, you can save!

I couldn't find any Photopea specific information on this issue so I thought I'd share for the next person looking for it. This change does effect all sites you browse, so I suggest learning a bit more about what the File System Access API is capable of to understand the risks.

While you're at it, consider disabling Brave's ad shield for this site and helping the developer out!
