Higher pay or better job opportunities in the future?
Hi, I need your perspective on what role to choose.
About me 23M accounting fresh graduate. After graduation, I took on a role as an Accounts Payable Specialist even though I had no desire to take on an accounting role.
Ever since college, I have always wanted to take on a project management role, because it is a lucrative career and I feel like it is challenging in the sense that it is not repetitive like the usual accounting roles. Thus, I accumulated PM certifications, volunteered, etc. related to this ambition.
My current role pays 25k gross. My colleagues are fine but the workload is quite heavy since I am the sole specialist for a certain process. This makes the pay quite low compared to how much work I do.
FF, I applied for two different roles and got the first offer (company A):
Company A: Junior Reconciliation Analyst (JO received)
- 35k basic pay
- 5k allowance
- 15 days leaves
- 13th month only
- One week onsite, the rest of the month WFH
- within the city; near my current workplace
- Free meals if work is on-site
- EU-based company
Company B: Business Process Analyst (JO not received but I feel it's coming since I am doing the medical exams this week) - estimated pay is similar to my current role since I am an entry-level/no related experience - 3 days WFH, 2 days on site - 13th and 14th month - Profit-sharing bonus - Outside the city around 2-3 hours due to traffic (will have to rent out a place) - Large US tech manufacturing company
If you were in my shoes, would you choose company A, which gives outright the higher pay but the future opportunities might be limited since I will be focusing on reconciliation and finance management and I don't have any accounting certification or the CPA license?
Or, will you choose the Business Process Analyst role that is expected to have a lower offer but will open many doors for higher pay in the future?
