Only occasionally shows boot up screen on monitor when turning on pc

tried to turn my pc on but nothing displayed on my monitor, and the monitor went into the state it goes into when it's asleep. Restarted it and it got to the very first screen (ASUS) then went into that sleep state again while the pc itself remained the same. I kept restarting by holding the power button and turning it on again and it ended up eventually working as normal?? Later on I tried to boot it up again and it's having the same problem, except it's not even getting to the ASUS screen yet. Is there any chance that this could be a problem with the storage?? Like it's unable to load windows or something so the monitor just doesn't display anything? Because my storage is in an embarrassingly bad state right now. If not what could it be?? Thanks
