Why we don't have asymmetrical multiplayer games any more?
Remember games like Evolve, Dead By Daylight and Aliens vs. Predator?
Those titles definitely introduced new mechanics into the typical death match and co-op games. Antagonist perspective was also very interesting. It must be a challenge to get the right balance, but the mentioned titles succeeded to a large extent.
In theory, introducing asymmetrical multiplayers by assigning boss player vs hero/es players could work for many popular titles. It could work for souls like game multiplayer with the right balance. It could even work for simulator games (e.g. driving, mech or space simulators). Real time strategies could also be wrapped in asymmetrical game mode.
Why multiplayer games like that are not produced any more?
Among Us and Deceit are somewhat more based on blending in, so I would treat it as separate category.
Dead By Daylight is still somewhat alive but it has old engine and it doesn't have any significant gunplay.
