Blizzard killed the future of the overwatch brand by releasing overwatch 2 as just overwatch 1 with micro transactions
When ow2 came out it wasn't really a new game. It had the same maps and the same characters as ow1. They added maybe 3 or so characters per year which is almost nothing. Then they decided to eventually add new game modes which imo are the worst game modes in the entire game. So anything they added that wasnt in ow1 often was the worst things about the game. The new characters were honestly some of my least favorite and often times were too powerful when they first released (sojourn, umaga, venture).
The main feature of ow2 was that now we have to pay for skins. They have completely destroyed the future of the overwatch brand because you released an entirely new title that wasn't really a new game. Compared to games like call of duty or other series that can stay alive for decades, I feel that overwatch has really killed its own marketing with the release of ow2. If you go and announce ow3 nobody will be excited because there's no evidence to suggest that this will be a new game. It honestly can't be that hard to release new characters. Marvel rivals has 4 in one season. I feel overwatch 2 has released very few in the 2.5 years.
The fact that ow1 doesn't exist anymore is all you need to know about how bad they hurt the brand. You can't even go back and experience the original. As for cod they had no trouble always releasing a new game. There's so many game brands like Tekken or dbz or street fighter which have kept the brand alive for decades. I honestly don't see much of a future for the overwatch brand. .
