People put too much weight into anonymous Oscar ballots
I'm not going to declare them useless as they are interesting and do reveal some insight...but the Academy has ten thousand members. I really don't treat them as anything more than a curio. As another reddit user pointed out, with a membership/voting body that large you're going to get weirdos. Is it a perfect system? No. Do I wish there was a way to confirm people are watch all or at least most of the movies? Yes. But at the moment it's the best we have.
P.S.
I remember a couple years back listening to a podcast and someone proposed having an "Oscars jury" which I believe could lead to even worse results. Look at the Cannes Jury. It's arguable they have an even lower batting average than the Oscars.
