Anecdotal hot takes from a SAG voter

I've been seeing so many posts and comments this year about "who is the person that is voting for *insert movie I don't like*?". Well r/oscarrace, I'm here to tell you that person is my mother-in-law, a SAG voter (woman, gay, aged ~60). She insists that these opinions are held by "everyone I know" and was genuinely shocked when I pushed back on a lot of them. So, for your enjoyment (or immense frustration), here are some anecdotal hot takes on this year's contenders:

Conclave - "we loved it"

The Brutalist - "couldn't get into" (editor's note: turned off after ~15 minutes)

A Complete Unknown - "a great performance, I hope he wins"

A Real Pain - "couldn't make it through"

Wicked - "just amazing. Such a fun movie" (editor's note: the only one of these movies she saw in theaters)

Anora - "it was so-so"

Sing Sing - "we liked that one"

Queer - "couldn't make it through that either"

Emilia Perez - "absolutely loved. That will win Best Picture" (editor's note: she hasn't correctly predicted a Best Picture winner in at least 5 years (she was adamant that Barbie was going to win last year))

The Substance - "won't watch, looks gross"

Worth noting that her at-home watching setup is a 40-inch 2010 TV that is approximately 15 feet away from the couch, so that definitely impacted her viewing experience. We didn't get into specifics of her ballot, but I would strongly suspect that it is:

 Ensemble - Emilia Perez

Actor - Timothee Chalamet

Actress - Cynthia Erivo

Supporting Actor - Jonathan Bailey

Supporting Actress - Zoe Saldana

Anyways, I strongly doubt that this is how SAG will turn out; however, here is at least some tangible anecdotal evidence of how some gay Boomer women might be voting. Almost certainly not much to seriously take from this other than: 1) Remember that the average voter takes this much much much less seriously than we do and 2) Boomers are going absolutely ape shit for Emilia Perez. We'll just have to hope that her Best Picture prediction streak continues this year ...
