Who (actually) won and lost after the BAFTA nominations?

I thought the BAFTAs would finally clear up some races and give us definitive answers. Turns out they like chaos too.

In my opinion:

WINNERS

Jamie Lee Curtis: Holy ****. That’s it. She may become this sub’s villain but my God does she know how to campaign when there’s a chance.

Conclave: Expected, but nice to see. This is where it will get to shine.

The Brutalist: Man, after SAG they really needed this.

Selena Gomez: See above. Without this she would be dead. Still, JLC might just snatch her or Margaret’s spot (I think she will.)

Emilia Perez: It got what it needed and what was expected, no shock but also reinforces the strength it has with the industry.

A Complete Unknown: I agree. It overperformed here and at SAG. Could be huge!

SAFE

Wicked: It got exactly what was expected of it. No snubs, no shock wins. Stays in the same range.

The Substance: See above. Exactly what it was expected and needed to do.

Sing Sing (more so, Colman Domingo): It got in! He got in! MACLIN GOT IN! That’s almost the win itself.

LOSERS

Daniel Craig: Oof. He just needed this nomination to be a lock. But Hugh over him? That’s harsh. He’s still the front runner for that 5th spot but he couldn’t lock it.

Margaret Qualley: This was her last shot in my eyes, mostly when The Substance actually did a decent job here.

Denzel Washington: Damn.
