Tromso September or October 2024

I wanted to travel to Tromsø this fall to see the northern lights. I'm trying to figure out the best time: based on experience, would it be in late September around the fall equinox (9/22)? Or the around the first quarter moon in October (10/10)?

Any help is appreciated!
