Road trip from Christchurch to Franz Josef via Arthur Pass

Hello seasoned travellers!

I am planning a road trip from Christchurch to Franz Josef in the last week of March this year. I am looking for suggestions for places to stop and admire enroute Arthur Pass. I plan to cover the distance in a day's drive.

Please suggest possible pit stops for fuel and food. Also there seem to be abundant view points on the route. Please suggest some scenic points to take a driving break and admire.

Also, kindly let me know about possible challenges on the road trip. We would be having two seasoned car drivers, so driving long hours would not be an issue. Our car would most probably be a Toyota Land Cruiser.
