Condolence gift

My (f42) dear friend’s FIL died and I’m not sure what an appropriate gift/card would be. I’m not going to the funeral, since I didn’t know him at all and it’ll be far away. But she’s a close friend. Any ideas? Or do I just give them a nice card?
