I remember faking sick to watch Psycho II by myself.
I forget how great this movie is. I can see how some people feel this sequel’s more rewatchable than the original. Sacrilegious, perhaps. But having just watched it after all these years, just the opening notes of the score brought me back to that day. That fact that Dean Cundey shot the thing is reason enough to love this sequel. I never thought I’d feel nostalgic about it, but I did. This is a solid motion picture. And it balances the more suspenseful, subtle stuff with the more graphic, gory parts. The kills I dare say are iconic. The violence is felt. But there’s also a solid mystery at play. Everyone seems to be taking the material very seriously. It’s a somber film at times. But it has its tongue firmly planted in its cheek. And Robert Loggia’s never been more chiller than he is in this. Deserves a look.
