Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV a bad choice for a highway commute?
Basically the title. I’m wondering whether the outlander PHEV is a bad choice for me. I have a chance to buy a very lightly used Outlander PHEV at a pretty significant savings off MSRP. I drive 36 miles (58 km) each way to work and all but about a mile of it is highway. And not a 55 mph highway - more like 75 mph. I can charge in my garage overnight but it’s not a guarantee that I could charge during the day at work.
The price I’m looking at makes it very comparable to a conventional hybrid or even to most ICE cars in that size class, so the “added” cost of a PHEV isn’t a factor. But will I be getting WORSE gas mileage? I like the idea of burning fewer dinosaurs but I’m wondering if I’m setting myself up for a counterproductive situation where my electricity bill goes up (I pay around $.17/kWh) AND I’m getting bad gas mileage.
