I think meditating while having migraine somehow cured it?
Before you read: I don’t have daily migraines and I’m experiencing them mostly when stressed, around significant change in the weather, sensory triggers and overprocessed food. My migraine path now to this day is, in my opinion, one of the easier ones and I truly share my sympathy to all of the people disabled by this illness. We all experience struggle and I just want to share my story, as I hope it will be useful for someone reading. I’d also like if we create a space for discussion in the comments and sharing the experiences.
I’m having migraines with aura for 8 years, with strong predrome and postdrome. In the beginning it was very scarring as I didn’t know all the triggers and was experiencing them almost always ‘at the wrong time’. In short, they were mostly occurring two times a month (sometimes more, sometimes less) and intensity had varied (from barely walking to home to hospitalization). Now, after significant life-changes and searching for all the triggers, I only experiencing them less than four times a year and every time I’m not taking care of my mental and physical health. The attacks are now painless and I get better sooner than ever.
As I want to keep this text short and then to answer to your questions, I want to write what was the only thing that worked for lessening the pain. Meditating while having migraine. I know, but please read.
Two years ago I had the worst migraine in my life. I thought I was going to die from the pain and, in one way, I actually wanted to. But as soon this thought came to my mind I started meditating on the pain. It is very hard for me to explain this process as it is very intense and complex, but it worked. Since then, something had truly changed and every time I feel the predrome (most often the day or two before the attack) I start practicing mindfulness and meditation. Now the pain is gone when I meditate and I only experience visual aura, motion sickness and slowness in speech and the hangover sometime after.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any doctor who was with me from the beginning of the process to this day and I can’t share the opinion of the professionals. But the only thing I know is that it worked for me.
So, this is roughly my story. If you have any questions on my current or past condition I’m here to answer them.
Edit:
Thank you u/danicord93 for introducing me to 'somatic tracking'! I've looked and that's the exact thing I was doing! To all reading this, please look it up as it could help you as it did tremendously to me.
Edit 2:
After I spent quite a detailed time researching this 'somatic tracking', eeeh... Seems fishy? But when I asked ChatGPT to explain the process behind it, well it pretty much did a good job explaining what happened to me at that moment... So idk, be vary of the sources online (including myself!)
