What are people's experiences of being a foster carer in Melbourne?

I'm interested in being a foster carer, but having worked in the foster care/Child Protection sector it sometimes feels like carers are unduly scrutinised/not supported. I just wanted to hear what people's experiences have been like before applying myself.
