Why is it that dangerous to ride a bike in Melbourne City roads?
As a biker who had multiple accidents with cars and none of them were my fault, I'm now wondering why it is that dangerous to ride in the city along with cars? (In the bike lane of course)
Here are my thoughts, you can add to them, too. Maybe something gets improved in the future:
Bike lanes are always either in the parking lines where car can park there or with a small distance from the parked cars so that if the driver or the passenger on the driver's side open the door without looking, or in case of passenger without being highly prudent, they will hit the bike/biker. Now it may seem not that important but imagine being a biker looking for every parked car doors to be opened at once. You can't concentrate on what happens in front of yours or at the right side.
Bicycle lanes are usually either cracked, impossible to be ridden on, ... . So the biker has to suddenly change the lane or drive in the cars line.
People are not aware that a specific road can have bikers, too via the bike lane. They don't look and easily hot the bike.
