Dr. Strange Question - His ULT

Question:

When using Dr. Strange's Ultimate, I really enjoy the body and soul splitting into two separate hitboxes. I'm curious: if I use the Dark Matter Explosion ability and deal 50 damage to the body and 50 damage to the soul, does this combine for a total of 100 damage to the player?

I initially thought the Ultimate allowed me to target either the body or the soul, but I didn't expect that an AOE ability could effectively double the damage. The numbers here are just examples, by the way.
