AMD guidance and support

Hi folks. Im new here.

I was off handedly diagnosed with drusen by an optometrist in 2009 when i was 32. Scared the life out of me. It would take me til 2011 to see a retina specialist who dismissed it, saying my eyes only appeared misshappened by an old injury. I relaxed for 12 years until things acted up and a new retina specialist confirmed I had dry amd. Im now 46 and boy or boy I wish I'd been taking better care of myself since that visit in 2011.

My current dr visits are being spaced out further because I dont seem to be progressing but ... im definitely scared. Im trying to eat more fruits and veggies, salmon, lean meats. Doc says its genetic but not a soul in the fam has it and im not adopted. I have had an eye injury. Tennis ball when i was twelve. But hes not convinced.

Guess im concerned since my doctor too seemed to be blown away i got this so young. Any advice out there? Anyone else in my situation?
