Discussion of better regional transit?

Has there been discussion at any level at ever considered offering more connectivity between Roanoke-Lynchburg- Charlottesville. I know Amtrak offered a few trains a day but it feels like a missed opportunity not to have a dedicated train or bus service connecting these 3 cities.
