If I were to dye my dreads semi-permanently, will my hair be 100% fine?

Pretty much the title. I’m worried that my hair will never go back to the state it once was if I start dyeing it, is that true? Is bleaching it necessary at all?

And if I were to use hair chalk instead of dye, what specific brand should I buy?

For context, I want to dye my dreads a very light/soft brown-orange ish
