Here’s why every “(Sinner) is (other character from book)” is wrong

Since Canto 7 poisoned the well, I’ve decided to write this list, because I don’t want to see more “Ryoshu is the daughter” theories.

First off, (Canto 7 spoilers), Don is Sancho only worked because of a major plot point in Don Quixote, that being Sancho taking on the delusions of Quixote, or as I saw it described once the Sanchofication of Quixote and the Quixotefication of Sancho. They can’t do it again.

Hong Lu isn’t one of his siblings. They called him Hong Lu/Jia whatever his name is. It doesn’t work story wise.

Ryoshu isn’t her child, or the monkey. Her child being killed is the climax of the story, and the monkey serves as a plot device to show off how caring Yoshihide’s daughter is, and the ridicule he faced. She’s clearly associated with the finger syndicates, and neither her child or whatever the monkey is fit that role, but the evil lady does.

Meursault isn’t his mother or his lover (or the Arab man). He has 4 things that need to be important in his story; his mother dies, he has sex a lot, he kills an Arab (Heathcliff???), he talks to a priest, and he gets executed. He needs to interact with these characters at some point, and then die, essentially.

Outis: Read the Odyssey.

Faust has 3 plot essential characters, being Faust, Margaret, and Mephistopheles, with like a 100 other important characters. The most you can hope for from a swap is Faust being the Virgin Mary, and that’s stupid and not gonna happen.

Dante actually has a decent chance of being another character from the Divine Comedy, given that it’s Bible fan-fiction, but Vergil is a main character and Beatrice is likely gonna be someone else, probably Iori. There is also a good chance that Dante turns out to be another biblical character, Judas Iscariot is my main guess here.

The only other chances you really have are characters from one story filling the role of a character in another.
