Recent Bad Gun Takes & Misinformation
Lately there has been an influx of new users to this subreddit. This is great, I’m glad people are familiarizing themselves with firearms and exercising their rights after being put in a politically uncomfortable situation.
That being said, with the uptick in subreddit activity I have also noticed an increase in terrible gun takes, recommendations, and fudd lore. This is unfortunate because many new gun owners will be given subjective or blatantly wrong information when asking for recommendations on the hobby.
I am aware there is not much that can be done as bad takes do not break the rules of the subreddit. But I encourage all new members of this sub (and long time members looking to learn more) to thoroughly research the firearms you’re interested in purchasing via multiple methods. Asking here is great, but go to a range and try them. Ask the gun store for recommendations. Have a friend or family member who shoots? Ask them for advice. Book range time with a certified instructor and ask for their advice both on shooting and on gun buying. Get multiple OPINIONS and go with the one that works for YOU.
Now more than ever it is paramount that we make smart decisions with something you will potentially be trusting your life to if SHTF. There are a lot of really experienced people on this subreddit, but the problem with the internet is that it is hard to distinguish between those people and people talking out of their ass, especially if you’re new to this. Downvoting bad comments can only help so much as the algorithm will show bad comments if they’re getting traffic.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
TLDR: Don’t take anyone’s opinion on this subreddit as gospel, do your own research because there has been bad information spread here as of late.
