If a doctor gives misdiagnoses & an injury occurs due to it, can you sue them?

I've always wondered this because you cant be denied medical care legally in the US so if you come in with appendicitis or something & they say it's something different & you end up in another hospital with huge medical bills. Could you sue them for malpractice or the excess medical bills?
