Comforter got burned in the dryer??

I put my comforter in the washer and dryer and when I took it out it was crunchy in the middle and it has this HUGE brown spot now in the middle. Did my dryer BURN the comforter?? Is this simply because the comforter was too big for the dryer or is this something more serious?
