This little game has me questioning my academic interest
Hello there, fellow humans!
While esterilizing substrate for my mushrooms, I stumbled upon the book "Half-Earth: Socialism" and the game inspired by it. It quickly became one of my favorite things to play while I wait during lab hours. The first 10 attemps were met with Earth destruction and/or people overthrowing the government, but then I started to mix political/ecological ideas to save it, putting my record on saving the world by 2040.
I applied to grad school last year, got accepted in a Neuroscience program abroad but sadly the consulate did not approve my student visa. While I've been down by all that happened, this type of media has inspired me to look for alternatives (I attended online classes while waiting for the rejected visa lol) but in the end, it did not feel 100% right for me.
I am a Biotech Engineer, which is not exactly the same as being world planner in a game haha, but it brought me to the concept of lab meat, animal cloning, human health impact by ecosystem restoration/destruction, biomaterials and renewable energy (if you have experience with this in graduate school, I'm open to suggestions).
TL;DR: Me found a game that introduces routes to save Earth from human impact, me sad for not going abroad to study, me happy because I have time and more info about possible routes to my academic career.
