Question for those who successfully crate trained their labs: when did you start letting your pup sleep outside of it?
Please no “mine has slept in bed with me since she was a puppy” or “he shouldn’t be sleeping in a crate.”
I do plan on letting my girl sleep outside of her crate once she is less destructive. However, she is 7 months old and chews on EVERYTHING. (And yes, we work on training every day, this includes redirecting her to more appropriate things to chew on.) It doesn’t matter if there’s nothing in the room, she will find something to gnaw on, like baseboards and molding, despite her having other options.
I can tell she feels safe in her crate and doesn’t mind sleeping in it, however, she wakes me up an hour before my alarm is supposed to go off, just to go back to sleep on the couch.
I would love for her to eventually sleep in her own bed or in mine, but don’t fully trust her yet to wander around if I’m sleeping.
As mentioned in the title, this question is for those who successfully crate trained their labs. When did you start letting your pup sleep outside of it? Or rather, at what age did you start trusting yours more?
TIA!
