Yesterday I learned about the "magic e"

English is my second language. My older child is learning to read and write in kindergarten. Today, while putting them to bed, I asked them to spell “waste”. To my surprise, they did it! I asked them “how did you know there’s an “e” at the end?" They told me “it’s the magic “e””. “Magic “e”, was it that?”, I asked. They then went on to explain how the “magic e” makes the vowels in a word be pronounced with their original sound. Immediately I understood why pine, sine and fine are pronounced the way they are! So, here I am learning English grammar from my kindergarten age child. Have a great day!
