Hot take: Remina was a really dumb manga. [SPOILERS]

Whether you liked it or hated it, you can't deny that Junji Ito gives absolutely no fucks in this manga.

There are few stories in this world that have a more detached view of how humans normally behave than this. And it might be intentional, maybe everyone is meant to behave in totally unrealistic and exaggerated ways in this story. But that didn't make it enjoyable for me.

For starters, nobody becomes a beloved teen-icon just because they were named after a cosmological object. The fighting over her love is just as laughable as the born-over-night cult seeking to give her a torturous death.

Remina falls in love with a man for no apparent reason.

Junji Ito doesn't understand how lightyears work.

And I'm okay with suspending my disbelief for wacky physics, but it was laughable to me when a point was made about how the recoil of a gun would effect someone in zero gravity when all the other laws of physics are totally ignored.

The connection between Remina and the planet is either "left to interpretation" or totally unexplained and meaningless.

It makes no sense why people would try to travel to the Hellstar Remina for safety. WTF.

Junji Ito has told some good stories. This isn't one of them. I digress.
