Iβm devastated ππ
A week ago, my beautiful baby Calliope made a hammock on the top right side of her 15x15x20 cm enclosure. She didnβt come out for 2-3 days so I assumed she was going into moult. However, and this is important, sheβs always been kinda a weirdo? She builds hammocks on the ground, and once moulted basically naked bc the hammock she made was extremely thin. (My other jumper is nothing like this)
So when she popped out of her hammock yesterday night, on the ground sucking her feet, I thought oh she mustβve been being a weirdo again? Guess she isnβt moulting after allπ€·π»
But this morning, oh my god, I came down and checked on my spiders, as I do and I found her MOULT where she had been last night!!!! But I couldnβt find herπππ then I saw some movement on the soil on the ground ( bio active) and realised there are TONS OF ANTS????!!!!! AND I FREAKED OUT AND OPENED THE DOOR!!!! And they swarmed our carrying two of her legsπππππππππππ and after some searching I found her head and abdomen πππππππππ they took her apart, I canβt stop crying, my beautiful baby had such a grisly end and I donβt know how to deal with itπππππππππ I donβt even know how the ants got in there??? The cross ventilation holes of the enclosure are so tiny, I saw those huge soldier ants too so my only theory is they small worker ants moved the larvae into the soil of the enclosure and they grew up in there. Oh god my baby Iβm absolutely devastated, Iβm heartbroken. The moment I saw the pieces of her carcass (it was an extremely bright deep orange, she wouldβve been beautiful πππ) I shut the door and went to my room bc I didnβt know what else to do. I just wish I couldβve known and prevented all this πππ Iβm so sorry you had such a horrible end Calliope, you were the best jumpieπππππππ
Iβm sorry I just need a place to lament, I donβt know what else to do or how to deal with this heartache, Iβm so sorry Calliopeππππ
