Fantasia (1940)
An incredibly beautiful anthology, with each piece of animation set to a particular piece of classical music, introduced by the speaker in a thoughtful way.
The ambition and abstraction is really extraordinary. I enjoyed the fantastical sequences the most. Ending with Satan on his mountain, conjuring demons and spirits fading into a gentle reassurance of "Ave Maria".
It would have been a more interesting world if Disney had leaned more in this direction than it's fairy tale bread and butter, or more of the mix of the two.
