New build bathroom help

Our new two home was just completed. I hate hate hate the way the bathroom turned out. I picked the shower tile almost a year ago and didn’t do a good job remembering what it looked like when we chose paint. So my boyfriend chose the wall paint color which I think clashes so hard with the tile. The contractor also ran out of tile and made the weird looking checker pattern on the top of the walls which I think is hideous. Every room came together so well except for this one. I can’t just knock out the tile, any ideas what I could do so it’s not so gaudy looking? I also can’t change the countertop but I don’t mind the way it looks. Obviously I’m still needing some things like a bath mat, organization, etc but where would you go from here? Especially paint color which
