How do you feel about chatgpt? (and generative AI as a whole)

OK, so let's start by saying that I'm not against these technologies, and in fact I can see the good things about it. For example, it could be used to generate characters and dialogues in a completely generated game like minecraft. The type of stuff that litteraly couldn't be done without it.

What I don't like about it is the way that these tools were created, and the current usage of them. I won't make a long monologue about why the way these companies collect data is immoral, it has been done tons of time.

What I want to focus more is the usage. People around me who use these tools tend to default to it before trying to think. You have to write an email? Chatgpt. You want to talk about something but don't want to bother learning about it? Ask chatgpt a summary.

If it only was used for boring, repetitive task, I would understand. But I've seen people around me use it even in the context of fun activities. To talk about a specific example, for new years eve I was organizing a small game. It was simple: at the start of the night, you get a "weird" sentence that you have to sneak into a conversation without others realizing. Example: "So, do you often wash your calfs?". This kind of thing. I wrote most of the sentences, but a friend came to help me for the last few ones. And I kid you not, he almost immediately copy pasted everything I did into chat gpt, asking it to create sentences in this style. And I'm like... Do you not like to think? Why would you ask a robot to do the fun part for you? And I see this kind of behavior in pretty much everything. People say that it's a tool like any other, but I don't agree. People, in a lot of cases, don't use it to make something faster, or better. They use it to replace their brain, avoid thinking. And as someone who is always in my head, thinking about tons of things and enjoying doing that... It baffles me.

Anyway, rant over... What do you think about these technologies?
