HVAC in Apartment Building
Hi yall, I’m hoping to get some insight on an issue I’ve been having in my apartment building because I’m just a girl and I feel like that’s the reason I’m not getting anywhere with this.
We moved into a newly renovated (or at least that’s what was said to us) unit in a residential building about 1000sq ft. Heat included, pay for electricity. First month was August so we had the AC running but even tho we would set it to 66/68 it never went below 72/73 and we got hit with a $650 bill from conedison (electricity provider). We reached out to management about the issue because the bill is astronomical with an apartment that size and also it was never cold and we still have 73 degrees in the apartment even tho the AC was running. They didn’t care, they sent a guy to check out the AC and all he did is point the thermometer to the vent and be like “yeah, air is coming out cold you’re good”.
Next month it started to be a little colder but not cold enough for heating to be on and with both AC and heating off the electricity bill was only $66.
Comes the cold and we turn on the heat (supposedly included) and we set it 63 which it shouldn’t take that much to get an apartment to 63 degrees but regardless the vents are going non stop. We get the bill for electricity and it’s $250.
We are at a loss and we don’t know what to do, the building isnt doing anything and they’re acting like we’re crazy for even saying this is an issue. I’m so tired of throwing away money and $600 extra every month are starting to take a toll on finances.
Any advice? We’re in New York, Westchester County.
Thank you so much!
