Advice needed

So here’s the story on 1/10 I took in my dad’s 3 year old husky, Rocky. Originally my dad rescued him from an abusive household when he was roughly 6-8mo and now wanted to re-home him because he didn’t have to time for him. I took him in because I didn’t want him to go to a shelter. He’s a total sweetheart. He’s kind, gentle, loving and affectionate. The problem is when he’s bad he’s BAD.

In the last 4 days he’s ran off twice. Last night was bad, I don’t think he would have come back alive if it wasn’t for us having a tracker on him and having friends to come help. When he escapes he doesn’t listen, he just keeps wandering or he will follow you back and the run off if you get close to him. He almost took out someone’s rat dog last night. He seems to have zero respect or remorse.

We have a boundary collar for him, but it’s been malfunctioning which is how he escapes. Usually he’s in and out of the house all day. He barks at the door and I let him in/out.

I know it’s early on in him coming to our home, but he seems to be adjusting well otherwise. I just don’t know what to do. He’s not trained and I don’t know how to train him because he just does what he wants. Like I said I took him in because I didn’t want him to go to a shelter, but I’m not an expert husky owner and I need advice. We love the guy to pieces, and he seems to love us but I don’t know how to help him or the behaviors.

Not food or toy motivated. I’m going to attempt more exercise.

What should I do and what do I need to know?
