Rakhi outside of Hinduism
So, I wish to start this post by saying I am not Hindu. I hope I don't say anything rude, as that is definitely not my intention, I just wish to learn.
Today a street vendor approached me and asked if I would have liked to buy a Rakhi. At first I just gave him some money assuming he needed it. He then said that he really wished for me to take it, saying it's fine. And so I did.
Now, my question basically is, can I (as a white person, with absolutely no connection to the culture) wear it? As far as I'm aware it's supposed to be given to a brother, but I don't have one (or a sister for that matter), and I'm not sure if I/someone I would give it to could wear it.
Please, know that I ask this with respect. I do not wish to wear something that is not meant for me or give it to someone disregarding completely it's original purpose. So I'm asking here to learn more about it.
Thank you for everyone who will take their time to read this❤️💕
