Topper help!

I am looking to add a top and another base tank to my son’s hermit crab tank. I am trying to avoid spending another $160 just on the exo-terra topper. Has anyone successfully used a regular breeder tank? Is there a way to remove the bottom glass? Thanks for the help! I never wanted these crabs but now I am getting more enjoyment thnn my kids are out of them and I want to make the best home for them! 🤣
