First toxic random in 500 hrs
I’ve been playing Helldivers 2 since its release and have accumulated around 500 hours of playtime. Most of that time was spent with random players, and all of those experiences were positive. Some players were better, some were worse, but I never encountered a toxic teammate—until today.
I was playing difficulty 9 against bugs (Heeth) when I accidentally killed a teammate with my HMG while shooting at a Charger. He immediately became toxic in the chat. When I explained that it was an accident, that I wasn’t aiming at him and didn’t mean to kill him, he responded by killing me on the spot. This really pissed me off, so I retaliated (which I now realize was a mistake—I should have just let it go).
We ended up killing each other a few times, but eventually, I had enough. I stopped and tried to ignore him, focusing on finishing the mission. However, he continued shoting at me and being toxic. I usually finish every mission, no matter how chaotic things get, but this time I left because I knew he wouldn’t stop.
It’s genuinely sad that people like this exist in our community and ruin the game for others.
PS: The whole situation is even more ridiculous when you consider his name was “John Helldiver.” Lmao.
